How do I create a Work Breakdown Structure for an Activity Network Diagram?

Adequate organization of activities and communication is essential in order to finish projects successfully. A Network Diagram organizes the activities to complete a project, product, or deliverable with a team. It is a collaborative prioritization tool to compare the relative merits of alternative actions in a visual way. It includes a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Activity name, Activity description, Predecessor, activities, Predecessor lead or lag, Successor activities, Relationship to successors, Successor lead or lag, Type of resources required, Resource skill requirements, Number of resources required, Activity assumptions/constraints, Level, Deliverable, Work package, Activity, Task, Dependency, Activity sequence, Level of effort (LOE) in Hours, Responsible, Est Confidence, etc. in order to focus on how fast deliverables are achieved.   • Element #: Unique reference ID for the activity or task.

  • Definition of Activity or Task (Description): Brief description of this Activity, Task, or Sub-Task.
  • Responsible Person or Group: Insert person or group name (responsible person).
  • Estimated (E) or Actual (A) Cost (Cross-reference to budget). Estimate or actual cost of the activity or task or add a cross-reference to the budget.
  • Project Phase (Cross-reference to roadmap or schedule). 
  • Provide the name or number of the Project phase that this activity falls into.
