What's New
For 2016, the maximum wages and tips subject to social 
security tax remains at $118,500. The social security tax 
rate  an  employee  must  pay  on  tips  remains  at  6.2% 
(0.062).
Reminder
Additional  Medicare  Tax.  A  0.9%  Additional  Medicare 
Tax applies to Medicare wages, Railroad Retirement Tax 
Act  (RRTA)  compensation,  and  self-employment  income 
that are more than:
$125,000 if married filing separately,
$250,000 if married filing jointly, or
$200,000 for any other filing status.
An  employer  is  required  to  withhold  Additional  Medicare 
Tax  on  any  Medicare  wages  or  RRTA  compensation  it 
pays to an employee in excess of $200,000 in a calendar 
year without regard to the employee's filing status.
