Action Verb Cheat Sheet
Premium Résumé Verbs by Common Actions
The résumé verbs below are most commonly used to start action-result
statements. These statements are utilized in the descriptions of your
previous job positions.
This list includes both synonyms and loosely related verbs that are
organized by common actions taken while performing duties,
responsibilities and achievements. The chart is designed to provide
you with ideas on how to structure the statements in your résumé.
We created a one page list, which allows you to print and keep this by
your side as a reference as you develop your resume. You can also keep
a window open to view the document. Use the Find function (Control+F
in Windows) to find a verb then look at the similar verbs in the
classification list. Otherwise just browsing the list can often times help
you remember actions in previous jobs.
It is acceptable to repeat the same action verb in the résumé. However
the statements will flow better if you do not use the same verb in
consecutive sentences. If possible, try to not to use the same verb
multiple times in the same paragraph or bullet point list.
