An object used for marking a location in a book is called a bookmark. Buying a book at a bookstore usually comes with a long bookmark of printed cardstock.

Word bookmarks are similar to book bookmarks in that they mark locations that you may want to find again easily. A document or Outlook message can contain as many bookmarks as you wish, and each bookmark can be given a unique name.
