What is a Shipper owned container (SOC) statement?

SOC container stands for Shipper Owned Container and implies that an ISO shipping container is owned by the shipper. This way you have more flexibility in unloading, and you can save demurrage and detention fees (time to return a cargo container to the port within a short time period), which is the biggest advantage of SOC shipments. When we speak about ISO shipping containers, ISO refers to the International Organization for Standardization. An ISO container is an international intermodal container that is manufactured according to the specifications outlined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO containers are suitable to transport by ship, rail, and truck.

For any shipment for which the containers are packed and supplied by the Merchant, the Merchant is required to complete and return this declaration form to the shipping line before delivering the shipment to their warehouse. Capitalized terms not defined herein shall have the meaning given to them in forwarders' standard bill of lading SOC-container Statement.

The below details must be supplied to the Carrier or its authorized agent, prior to the pre-carriage or the delivery of the cargo and the SOC to the Marine Container Terminal.

  • Container number
  • Size
  • Type code
  • Date of manufacture
  • Next Examination date or ACEP No.
  • Maximum Gross Weight(kg)
  • Tare (kg)
  • Allowable Stacking Weight (at least 192.000kg)
  • Racking Test Load Value(at least 15.000kg)
