How to draft a Leave of Absence? We provide a perfectly written Leave of Absence that fits your needs!

Should you take a leave of absence from work? That is surely a question that has asked yourself lately. Sooner or later, at some point during your career, you may need to request a leave of absence from your work, due to a variety of reasons, for example: personal or health-related issues, birth or adoption of your son or daughter, a break caused by excessive work-related stress, inevitable loss of a person close to you or maybe just a strong desire to travel the world.

Important to know: Other than for leaves covered by Family and/or Medical Leave Act (FMLA), military duty, jury duty, and some other particular circumstances, your boss is not required to approve your request for leave, nor is your company required to provide paid personal leave.

What Is a Leave of Absence?
A leave of absence (LOA) is a specified period of time off from your work. Depending on the company that you are working for, you may simply be able to ask for time off from your job shortly before you need it, or there might be a more formal process in place that you must follow to get your short leave approved.

We support you by providing this Short Request For Leave Of Absence HR template, which will save yourself or your HR department time, cost and efforts and help you to reach the next level of success in your work and business!

What to do before you ask for a leave?
Regardless of the reason why you are applying for leave, it is very important to approach the leave request properly, in order to create a minimal reaction and maintain your good standing at work.

Requesting and obtaining a leave of absence when you work in a casual environment can be as simple as saying to your boss, "I really need a short leave of absence. Would it be possible to take this leave of absence for the period of three weeks in the next three months?

If you are working in a more formal company, you may need to structure your request according to the applicable company policy. The company may have specific guidelines for who is eligible for a leave, and when and how often leave of absence can be taken.

Before submitting your leave request, be sure to be acquainted with the applicable company's leave of absence policies. Also, make sure you have a well-practiced explanation for the leave on hand. Make a decision before presenting the topic about what your next move will be if your request is turned down by your supervisor.

Make use of our leave letter template to help to come to a perfect personalized version. The objective of writing this letter is to request a period of leave for a temporary or permanent leave. It will mainly depend on the reason you apply for leave, whether or not you want to use a formal intonation.

Whether the leave of absence letter is formal, or not, we advise putting the reason for the leave in the first paragraph of the letter's body. In the paragraphs following, you can use examples to support your main argument. In the final paragraph, you need to summarize the purpose of your letter again and suggest a suitable course of action to follow. Do not indent the paragraphs. But instead, leave an empty line between each paragraph.

Please understand that if you are drafting a wrong leave letter or a false leave letter, this may create bridges of misunderstanding. Therefore, we recommend to first, analyze the reason behind the leave and then draft a letter accordingly. Make sure you have taken enough time to inform those who might be affected by your leave, so they can take the appropriate precautions.

Close the letter without indentation, leaving three or four lines for your signature between the closing and your typed name and title.
